Internet on flights | The Vietnamese government gave permission Tuesday to aircraft maker Boeing to test its in-flight Internet service aboard some flights to the country.
Korea’s Asiana Airlines, China Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and Korea Air will all have Connexion by Boeing during the trial period which will last until May 30 next year. The United Arab Emirates’ Etihad Airway is the other partner in the US firm’s trial but it does not fly to Vietnam.
Boeing launched the service in 2000 hoping to provide air travelers data communication services via a space-based network for about the same price as cellular phone services.
Travelers with a laptop can get Internet and corporate intranet services, live television, transmission and receipt of data, and other services.
